This review focuses on the Whiteboard Essentials course, but I enthusiastically recommend the other courses I've taken as well (Sidemount, Masterclass).

This new format is the perfect combination of whiteboard explanation and video demonstration - the two together really complement each other to magnify learning. It's clear that this was professionally done, because every sentence, drawing, and segment of video either makes a point or explains it concisely. Also, Essentials is just as applicable to backmount as SM.

There is no comparison to what I've gotten out of these videos vs written training materials or books, no matter how well-written. Being able to hear a topic explained while written out simultaneously and then demonstrated is so helpful to me, because then I can try to replicate it in the water while understanding the end-state and the "why" behind it.

I was already fairly comfortable with the topics of buoyancy and trim, but diving into the theory and finer points has improved my diving fundamentals, which is super important to me. I also learned a lot of new information about positioning, especially during ascents and descents.

I’m always impressed with the quality of the content and the attention to details that sidemounting video offers. Investing in the material that Steve and Vas produce is one of the best investment I made for my diving.

The whiteboard essential series takes things a step further. The explanations are clear and well presented, which make the concepts easy to grasp. This format is engaging and offer a different look on the material, the instructor ability to break things down to the core and explain the why behind the how is brilliant.

I think this material can benefit all divers and I highly recommend it.

I just finished your Whiteboard Essential Series, I found the lessons very interesting, and they helped me to solidify some of the theory I already knew. Each lesson was easy to follow and understand thanks to the illustrations and videos with real diving scenarios combined with a clear voice over. I have never had such good explanations in any of the actual classes I had taken before this.

If I compare your whiteboard lessons to the agency diving theory books, your lessons go much deeper into the "why" and at the same time they do it in a very intuitive way, which is much quicker to pick up the concepts than by reading the same explanation in the books.

I really felt that your Whiteboard series strikes a good balance between feeling "in school" and being part of an engaging instructor led session. Even though I did know about most of the topics you covered in the Essential Series, I still picked up many extra details, and this added greatly to my understanding. Looking forward to investing in the rest of your whiteboard series and any other online training you bring out, thank you.

The “Whiteboard - The Essential Series” is the first course of the whiteboard series, as the title suggests it’s intended to be a multi-topic related course that covers several topics about scuba diving, zooming on several aspects for each topic covered. The course covers topics related to Buoyancy, Trim, Position (in team), Action (tasks and propulsion), Diving Strategies.

For the divers who are already familiar with the Sidemounting.com courses, this whiteboard course is more focused on “about” and “why” of various topics/aspects, most of them already covered by the other courses where the accent was instead put on “how”. So, thanks to the different format of the content deployment, it’s an addition in value to the already existing courses, it increases knowledge on different themes and, for sure, worth the investment.

For those who are not familiar with sidemounting.com contents, let’s talk about the ensemble of their online courses (and not only to this specific whiteboard course) compared to the other sources of training (provided by agencies or other resources): in my opinion we are speaking of something that changes your level. It has not been intended to be a substitute of the regular physical attended courses, but something that covers all the aspects of diving with a level of detail that cannot be reached either covered by a written manual or a few sessions in presence.

They are sharing their results and success of a long experience in diving in different environments, years of teaching, correcting and improving students and hard work on delivering that experience in video format. And, moreover, they are constantly updated and growing. Simply, If you love life, nature, water and scuba, if your desire is to be better, safer and above all happier, you must get them.

Coming back to the WB Essential course, In my opinion the format is successful and “mind friendly”, you are driven to follow the explanations and think about them without the risk of being distracted by the surrounding scenes. Only when/where needed, video frames and photos are shown to better clarify drawings and explanations in an effective way. Manual drawings complete what Vas is telling and avoid any possible misunderstanding.

The way each single aspect is introduced, explained and clarified is very good, even for a non-native speaker, the lessons can be attended without subtitles or the necessity to go back and re-listen something. Everything is exposed clearly and kept simple, even when physics details are explained.

The format can be always enjoyed also from a smartphone screen because the camera focus is constantly only the whiteboard and everything can clearly be read and seen, audio is at best quality.

One thing about which I was quite surprised is that, even if the course is all theoretical, all the lessons are captivating, before to began I expected the format to be a little boring, and instead it was the opposite.

Regarding the content, I really enjoyed above all the portion dedicated to the breathing cycle and advanced breathing techniques and the part dedicated to team positioning.

Honestly the money I spent on sidemounting.com is the most valuable in return since the first course I attended many years ago, every content they sell is worth the investment whatever level you are.

The whiteboard series are awesome. You can tell hours upon hours of work were put into each short video. The length of the videos is definitely a plus; it feels like there was never a wasted second, and every drawing and sentence had a purpose.

I'm an instructor under a few different agencies, and I can't think of a single piece of e-learning that I know of that is even close to the quality of the whiteboard series and all the other content in sidemounting.com.

I wish the rest of the dive industry would shift more toward this style of learning. Great job, Steve and Vas, and I'm looking forward to the future lessons.

I’ve picked up great ideas and new techniques that are making all my dives safer and more enjoyable. The proper weighting tips are worth their weight in gold.

As a technical dive instructor, cave diver and self-proclaimed scuba nerd I have over the years studied the topics covered in the Whiteboard series via books and online courses from various dive agencies, physical classes, YouTube videos - you name it.

The whiteboard series is in my opinion is a game changer (as are the original sidemounting.com online training videos) in how to deliver essential dive theory.

The topics are covered in a precise and accurate way, that leaves the nerd in me satisfied. They are engaging and easy to digest, and therefore easy to understand for divers at any level.

The inclusions of drawings and videos bring points across so much clearer - yet again do not overload the student. The explanations are clear and easy to follow - yet I believe divers at any level will learn and benefit from these videos.

Not only did I learn new things from the videos, they will also greatly help me deliver better classes in the future - as did the original series. I am looking very much forward to the future parts of this whiteboard series.

Thank you both for your extraordinary contribution to the diving community!!!

Review of the sidemounting.com video training courses - May 2024

I have been diving since 1988, at the time I got my first certification over the course of several weeks of training. Things are different today and certifications are obtained in fast 2 to 4 day courses with only minimal “classroom” instruction.

A few years ago, I became curious about sidemount. I found that hiring an instructor to teach me for several weeks, as I did in 1988, was prohibitively expensive. So I went the conventional route and followed a standard 4-day course. My instructor did his best to teach me the basics in the few days the course allowed. I loved the system and I finished the course with a sidemount certification but, by no fault of my instructor, I was still unprepared. He also pointed me in the direction of sidemounting.com and encouraged me to follow the videos there, which I did.

The video courses have helped me to assimilate all the information that my instructor tried to instil in my head in the four days we had. They have also added a lot of additional information that my instructor could not provide for lack of time. Further, there are many concepts and ideas that only became relevant once I was better versed in sidemount diving. Specially gear configuration details and in-water skills.

I am old school, I love books and never liked video instruction. Yet, I have found that in the case of sidemount, printed information and even photos are not enough. A personal trainer over several weeks would be my preferred choice, but lacking that, the videos with voiceover instruction are as close as I can get to the real thing in an affordable way.

The sidemounting.com webpage includes several different courses, which a first sight may look confusing:

The Free training and the Intro to Sidemount are only meant to give you a taste of the actual courses. You can happily forget them once you join the full course.

The Masterclass videos are enjoyable and a nice intro to the philosophy of the courses. I have enjoyed them, but are completely skippable.

The Sidemount videos are the heart of the matter. That is where all the relevant information is. If you get only one course, this is it. You won’t need anything else.

I have used the Backmount course to teach my daughter about scuba diving, but if you dive sidemount exclusively, you won’t need it. Everything that is relevant to both backmount and sidemount is present in both courses.

The Technical Diving course is only relevant if you want to go Tech, which was my case. These are very informative to anyone starting Tech diving, and I have used them as an addition to my in-water training. Not needed if you are a purely recreative sidemount diver.

The instructor Series have been a pleasant surprise. I bought access to them on a whim, having no desire to become an instructor, but they have given me additional knowledge about diving sidemount. I am passionate about becoming a better diver, so for me this course is a welcome extra.

The Essential Series are new and only the first one, the Fundamental series, is available. I thought this info would all be known to me and that for this type of theoretical information a book would be a better format. Well, I enjoyed the combination of the whiteboard drawings of force arrows for example, with the inclusion of short videos showing a real diver affected by those forces. I found this series a beautiful way to teach some complex concepts, certainly better that just reading from a book. I look forward to the rest of the series.

IMO, the best way to approach the sidemounting.com video courses is to first take a look at the “Free training” or “Intro to Sidemount” videos to get an idea of what sidemount is about. Then get some basic in-water training to get a real taste of it. If your instructor is any good, you may fall in love with the system, as I did. Then do yourself a favour and follow the full Sidemount video course, practice on your own what you study and tinker with your gear. Everything you learnt and much more will start making sense to you, and you will become a better diver.

As for the other video series (backmount, instructor, essentials… ), wait until you have gone through the sidemount series before investing in them.

To be honest, some skills, like perfecting your trim or improving your finning techniques, will be hard to do on your own even after following all the videos. Your next step should be to redo your sidemount course and perfect those last skills. That is what I plan to do anyway.

I like the whiteboard series as complementary to the current videos and Master Class lectures. It’s a great enhancement to the regular training material, provided by the agencies.

The references to videos and images from the regular on-line content provides context and live examples. This multi-media approach enhances learning and understanding.

The whiteboard is a great dynamic medium for explaining concepts in-depth and analyzing various scenarios. Unlike books or manuals, the content is built in front of the eyes. My feeling is as if Vas is sitting near me, sharing his knowledge and real-life practice.

The lessons are packed with tips and good practices. I learned new things throughout the series. It is obvious that a lot of planning, thought and effort went into production.

I have been a long time subscriber of Steve Martins Sidemounting videos. I have recommended them to many new or want-to-be sidemount divers over the last 5 or more years and continue to find value in them myself as a sidemount only diver.

Steve (and Vas) have come out with an additional format that is intriguing. This is the WhiteBoard series. I've reviewed the Essential Series and find it covers the information that ALL divers should either know intellectually or empirically. Steve and Vas go into the material in great depth, so to give the user a complete understanding of this important material.

The WhiteBoard concept is like an animated book with narration. As such it caters to the visual and auditory learners.

The Essential series is just that - essentials. It is geared toward the newer diver, whether backmount or sidemount, but there are bits and pieces that many experienced divers would benefit from.

I was given free access to the Whiteboard Essentials, and am looking forward to BUYING the rest of the series when released.

I purchased Steve's material about 5 years ago and have renewed it ever since. I have even bought the instructor series to improve my teaching skills. When I heard about the whiteboard series (which has been in the making for some time) I was eager to check it out.

The last couple of weeks, I have been going over the materials. When reviewing the materials, I didn't learn anything new for the level I'm at, but it did add some nice tools to my toolbox as an instructor.

Overall, the Whiteboard Essentials series is very thorough and quite informative, however it is also quite long if you want to go over it all. But that is the beauty of this online material. You could only review what you need or the part you want to deepen your knowledge of. I think it is a great resource to learn the foundations of diving. If you are a newly certified diver (or in the process of becoming certified) or are an instructor, I think this is a good series as it will benefit divers of all levels.

All in all, I would recommend it, and I'm looking forward to the other parts of the whiteboard series.

I did my sidemount course in 2014 in Egypt (I started diving in 2003), but it was more a “here you get your card” instead of in depth instructions on how to set up harness and get real sidemount skills; in 2020 I found the sidemounting.com webpage and worked with Steve's (and later on also Vas) online programs to improve my sidemount / diving skills; It's a great approach in how to teach / give instructions even if it is “just online”

Now with the whiteboard series (beside all the other courses that were available and permanently improved) it's another step to get some fundamental background info about “why and what”; even there was more or less nothing really new in it for me, it was a good way of refreshing some info.

Especially for newer divers it's very beneficial – and the approach of not just speaking about it, but also showing it on the whiteboard makes it even more understandable (especially if you’re a more visual type of learner); So looking forward to more being released 🙂

I've been following everything that Steve and his team has released the last couple of years. I can highly recommend all of it! It has helped me tremendously in my own diving.

Especially when it comes to Sidemount, Steve can rightfully be thought of as maybe the foremost premier subject-matter expert on the subject.

All the online training videos are clear, pedagogical and easy as well as enjoyable to follow.

Having followed the online sidemount course with great success, I was interested to expand my knowledge, so signed up to the whiteboard series.

I found the series to be quite in depth, which I feel is a bit more suited to an experienced diver, but this has given me new angles to explain things when my students aren't quiet grasping a subject. The presentations are well-thought-out, although a couple of them lost me a bit.

Overall, I recommend this series to anyone wanting to improve their understanding of scuba diving. Thanks, looking forward to more.

Flipping the classroom in diving! As a schoolteacher, I’m used to classroom settings where interaction between teacher and students takes place, alongside some distractions, perhaps. Much of what you learn is stuff that, although quite important, somehow gets forgotten, or, even worse, stuff which seems impossible to comprehend.

In the whiteboard essential series the knowledge every diver should have about buoyancy, trim, position, action and diving strategies is explained in a clear way without distractions.

In your own time, you can learn or review the basics of diving. The whiteboard series combine the power of learning from a "live" teacher with learning at a pace with suits you at the moment you’re open to learning and the learning effect is at its greatest!

The videos are well-made with video overlays which show real life footage of that what is being taught to emphasise the concepts and solidifying the concepts. In my opinion the materials beat the proven way of how training materials within the dive industry are set up. No e-learning program or books from agencies I have used were this good.

Vas has a great way of explaining, he explains things clearly and concisely with accurate examples and in a way that even for non-native English speakers is very understandable.

I think the Whiteboard series are for every diver, they provide you with a better understanding of the basics of diving.

For quite some time I've been following the materials that Steve is offering in the Side Mount Scuba Diving and I must say: the best way to spend your money on online courses. Loads of useful tips, plenty of well-explained knowledge based on facts and vast experience.

Overall it helped me to become a better diver and most of all better Instructor. I highly recommend the courses that Steve is offering. You will not regret it! The approach of combining video and whiteboard lectures and talks is simple to understand, visualise and put to use.

The knowledge is presented in a much better way than the traditional materials of most organizations, and Steve's approach is universal and for everyone to develop his/her own skill set. Watch listen and learn and most of all enjoy!!! Thank you!

After having dealt with terrible SSI sidemount training material, I bought Steve's sidemount online course, and I was impressed. All topics were way better explained than in the buggy SSI material. I also did SDI/TDI training courses and must say, that nothing beats Steve's video-based training.

Since a few weeks ago, there has been a new series at sidemounting.com. I was able to look into the whiteboard series and Steve and Vas delivered again.

The way of presenting the material is done in a very good way. You get sketches on the whiteboard but at the same time, you will see videos of the situations explained on the whiteboard. Very cool concept. You don't have to read, you can just listen.

I started over the side-mount video course again, and it is very helpful to jump to the whiteboard session for some more theoretical lessons. It helps to fully understand the message Steve and Vas want to transmit.

Overall, some of the topics in the whiteboard series I already know well. But it is easy to use the navigation and jump onto the next topic. The essential course is separated into 5 parts. Buoyancy, Trim, Position, Action and Diving Strategies.

I like the way Steve and Vas are teaching the materials. I can highly recommend the new and the old materials. They are worth it.

I really enjoyed the Whiteboard Essentials course. While I've done a lot of online training in the past, both for diving and other topics, this is the first time I've come across this presentation style in a formal course. I found it very effective for this type of material.

Most online dive training material is presented either as videos demonstrating skills, videos of talking heads explaining ideas and concepts, or text-based explanations with a few diagrams or photos thrown in. The whiteboard format worked well for me, as the combination of simple drawings, photo & video overlays, and Vas' clear explanations made it easier to understand the concepts and their application than simply reading blocks of text on a page. Although it wasn't the point of the course, I also learned new and better ways to explain ideas and concepts that I've always struggled to explain effectively.

As with all the sidemounting.com videos, the lessons are bite-sized, arranged in a sensible progression, and well-indexed, so I can easily go back and find a specific video or explanation. Even when I already understood the topic (or thought I did), the explanations often came at the topic from a different perspective, or showed me a different way of applying the basic principles to my diving.

The course is pitched at a level suitable for both beginners and more experienced divers. I haven't yet had the chance to do any team diving, so the section on positioning was completely new to me. The combination of diagrams and Vas' explanations managed to point out and clearly explain some very obvious aspects that made sense, but which I'd just never considered before. After watching the videos, I'm more confident that, when I eventually dive with a team, I will at least understand where I'm supposed to be in relation to the other divers in different situations.

This series is well-named: if I'd had access to these explanations when I started diving, I think it would have helped me improve my skills faster, rather than working it out by trial and error. All the material is at least mentioned in passing in other courses, but I haven't previously seen the science behind it explained as clearly for a non-technical audience.

Probably the best bang for the buck out there, not just for sidemount diving but diving in general. It's not just that this is the best online training out there, there simply isn't really any alternatives that are even remotely close.

I remember first coming across Steve Martin's videos on YouTube by chance years ago and how streamlined everything looked. I told myself that I would be a sidemount diver one day, but also that there's no force on earth that could ever drag me into an underwater cave.

Well, here we are a few years later, and I'm a full cave diver and couldn't be happier. But don't just take my word for it, go check out some of the free videos on his website before you decide. I promise you won't regret it.

I have been subscribed to Steve and Vas online training for few years now and with each release I am still learning new things.

I really like the new WhiteBoard format they just released, the videos are interesting and short enough to keep your focus. I found each lesson to be clear, easy to follow and understand. This is definitely easier than just reading text which you get with other online training, most have lots of text which I find quite boring and have trouble visualising what I read.

The whiteboard is great as you get drawings, actual video pop ups and images to help you learn. The Essential Series is well worth the cost, considering the amount it covers. I also like that I can just login start watching whenever I have time, stop at any point and pick straight back up.

I think this WB essentials is a huge benefit to all divers! But also can give some guidance to instructors to help students if they struggle with some subjects. I am now really looking forward to the rest of the WhiteBoard series!

I have completed several on-line training courses with TDI, IANTD, BSAC and PADI. The SideMounting.com whiteboard series is a totally different way to deliver content that is both informative and interesting. Whether you are a new diver wanting to understand the essentials of scuba diving or an experienced diver wanting to better understand the mechanics of the sport, you will be emersed with useful information and demonstrations. The delivery format provides audio, video, and written content that complement one another introducing simple topics and building on them to provide the student with a complex understanding of the key diving processes and procedures.

The format is brilliant and in a way, not being 'perfect illustrations’ demonstrates that the lessons are 'real world' sessions. The video inlays work really well to bring the points being made into further clarity as does the narration which is clear and simple to understand. Whether you learn visually, through listening or using the whiteboard all bases are covered.

The lessons are broken down into sections so that it’s possible to navigate quickly to the relevant sections and making it easy to use the material for future reference.

The Essentials series covers the basic building blocks of safe and competent diving in a manner that is both entertaining and understandable and complements the existing video tutorials and discussions already produced by this team of outstanding dive educators.

I really enjoyed the intro to sidemount course, it was sufficient to have a clear idea of the level of details the whole Sidemount course gives. Moreover, I got essential information: make adjustments to the setup of the harness/wing, setup cylinders and regulators, how to don and doff in the water, weight testing, testing the trim being static.

I was able to make my first three sidemount dives in a shallow and well-known place, no changes needed to the setup or weighting, I brought a diving mirror and cylinder trim looked good. What I appreciated more was that without invest big money, I finally got underwater the feeling of the sidemount configuration I studied dry during the last months. I made some mistakes, messed up sometimes during don and doff, so I watched again the videos several times during these days.

Honestly, about weighing amount and distribution and also static trim from first dive, I think I was very, very lucky. So, many thanks for your work and I will be taking advantage of the money back for intro and upgrading to the whole sidemount course.

Hi Steve, hear is the update I promised since I made the upgrade from intro to sidemount to the full online sidemount course. I have to say overall it's fantastic and exactly what I was looking for.

I have repeated various parts several times as I've gradually built up my knowledge. I'm buying bits of kit, configuring them, jumping in the pool for an hour once a week and then watching or repeating lessons. This is so much better than trying to find someone to teach me this stuff over a weekend.

I feel like it's really sinking in the way I'm doing it. I am a complete convert to this style of learning for advanced diving and kit configuration skills. A minor upgrade would be to have a search function that could find lessons related to key words, I haven't missed this somewhere have I?

Thanks again, the online training is f**king brilliant, and I can't wait to see the white board series when it arrives.

When I started sidemount diving after having done a sidemount specialty course, I found that, although I was able to safely dive in a sidemount configuration, there was still a lot of room for improvement. Searching the internet I found a lot of information, some good, some bad. When I came across sidemounting.com I started watching the free videos and liked them a lot and I purchased access to all the online training videos. They are of excellent quality, breaking down step by step all aspects of sidemount diving and diving in general. Being it the setup of your harness or failure of a high-pressure hose and everything in between. It’s been tried, tested, and discussed. Over the years I’ve been using the videos as a reverence and as way of improving my diving. They enable me to make an educated decision on which way to go when preparing for new things like diving from a rib or using heated undergarments. Thank you.

The most comprehensive and informative online sidemount content library I have come across. Well worth signing up for and running through the wet and dry tutorials. Fantastic job guys. I previously studied online theory elements of TDI OC and CC that we’re delivered via online training, and they don’t compare to what you’ve achieved here. The only thing I can suggest to you as improvements is to just keep doing more of what you are doing.

Hi Steve, 10 days ago I purchased the £25 intro to sidemount course and I'm really enjoying the content. Please email me the voucher code and I will upgrade to a full online course subscription. It really is great learning material and makes all the difference when moving to sidemount. Even for someone like me who has been diving for a long time, it's a pretty steep learning curve. It's actually questionable whether I would have had the confidence to go all in on sidemount without the support of your training videos, even after a 2 day course on holiday. Thanks again

I have to give a shout out to Steve Martin's sidemounting.com online training videos. I really struggled in my Cavern course and was determined to be where I needed to be skills wise before I started cave. Over the summer I would watch one of Steve's videos and then go to the quarry and practice that skill over and over. One day long hose drills, next day valve shut down drills but the most valuable one was the Advanced Buoyancy Control/Lung Volume Training. When I started doing that one it transformed my diving and my RMV plummeted. I was able to move between 12 meters and 18 meters easily using only lung control. Steve you charge way too little for your inline training courses!

You have put a lot of work into your online training mate. It's a great resource, perhaps the most comprehensive online training available in diving, not just sidemount specialism. It's especially valuable for those without access to a legitimate sidemount subject matter expert for training.

After I did my very first sidemount dive it was clear to me that I want to dive deep into this topic. So I was very happy to find sidemounting.com and these videos actually prepared me best for my further training/development in diving. When the Masterclass was launched I was very excited of the new format. Videoing the dialog between Steve and the different divers was a great idea because it makes the videos very vivid. Further there is a lot of information presented comprehensively & efficiently and the audience can build up very quick a good understanding of all the relevant topics. I think the masterclass as well as the other classes are very valuable for new and for experienced divers. I appreciate a lot the work that has been put into these online lessons!

I recently completed the online course - intro to sidemount, which was excellent. This helped me make the switch from single cylinder backmount to sidemount. There were some issues I was unclear on, but after discussing these with Steve, he has now included the donning and doffing cylinders lesson into the intro course which I think nicely completes it. I was very impressed with Steve’s quick response and him actually changing the intro course based on my feedback. I then decided to upgrade and am now progressing through the full side mount online course and am amazed how many little details, I hadn’t even considered, are covered in the very clear and explanatory videos. This online training is going to allow me to enjoy side mount much more as well as making it safer and less stressful. Prior to registering with sidemounting.com, I had been trying to find this information online from various unrelated and incomplete sources. Paying for the full online course has highlighted the issue, that for beginner sidemounters like me, you don’t even know what you don’t know. Just from what I have watched so far, it amazes me how many bad habits I was already developing! I cannot recommend sidemounting.com online training enough.

I very much enjoyed the online Masterclass course. It was nice to be able to access more exclusive material at a budget friendly rate. The brevity of the videos made them easy to follow and made it easy to maintain focus throught the course. In addition it is not daunting to go back and look again at any material since the segments are so short. I did find it tough to hear some of the dialogue occurring in the class at times (I imagine dive shop classrooms do not have the best acoustics for recording!), however subtitles are available so you can read anything that you could not hear. In addition more portions of the video with the presentation as the main screen and the recording of the course as the minor side window would be nice. You did well to mix in portions of the presentation as part of the video together. All in loved the course and hope to see more content or sequels in the future.

This is my second year subscribing to sidemounting.com with Steve Martin. I think that the online training course is an excellent resource, and a great baseline for any diver. Steve, Vas, and Joe do an excellent job of demonstration as well as education and best practices. I was able to acquire my Sidemount certification with Joe Seda, just outside of Gainesville Florida. Steve’s online videos continue to be in my opinion some of the best resources. The Masterclass just covers some of the basics, but there is far more information when you purchase all of the courses, the video demonstration is an excellent way of learning, and when you are implementing some of the courses in the field as well as configuration of your equipment. It really does work. Thank you Steve for your excellent attention to detail. I will continue to subscribe yearly and to share what I’ve learned and the resource wherever I can.

I have recently completed the new online course - Masterclass. I found it to be a great diving and teaching experience concentrated in video lessons. I think it will be very useful for the site 'newcomer' to gain this expertise, to learn various helpful tricks, to get acquainted with the site and the materials offered on it and... then subscribe to one of the training packages and maybe even register for the in-water training 🙂 And for those who already have a subscription to the full sidemount course, the Masterclass can always help refresh their knowledge and even learn something new. I personally really enjoyed the Q&A section because there was new information that I wanted to know. Thank you for this new course and for sidemounting.com in general!

It was clear right from the beginning of the in-water training that Steve and Vas were not instructors just going through the motions to be in the lifestyle, but were master practitioners passionate about transferring their skills on sidemount diving. They were patient and encouraging, and offered personal guidance and feedback during the daily debriefs using video recorded during the training sessions. And as awesome and liberating as the sidemount diving experience can be, the shift in equipment configuration and management requires significant adaptation in both your skill-set and mindset from traditional back-mount scuba. Watching the online training videos on sidemounting.com until I understood the fundamental differences between the two systems was invaluable in preparing me for what to expect in the water, familiarizing me with equipment setup, and aiding in becoming proficient in important procedures. The in-water training sessions were recorded by Steve and Vas in UHD (Ultra High Definition). Looking at the quality of the footage, you would think the camera had been mounted on a gimbal. All the videos and photos were made available to be downloaded through a cloud server. Not only was I able to go back and see what went well and the techniques that needed more working on, I was able to share/upload the content with my family, friends, and social media platforms, garnering some oohs and ahhs. I can say I came out a different diver at the end of the course, and I challenge you to find a better pair of instructors than Steve and Vas. If you think you would benefit from world class sidemount training, good luck reserving a slot when they become available as they fill up fast.

I have enrolled in the sidemounting.com online course for all students (package 2), and it has proven to be incredibly beneficial to me. These courses offered highly detailed explanations covering every aspect of sidemount diving. I discovered certain nuances that I hadn't previously considered, and these were not even addressed by my past instructors. Especially, they were all explained by great videos, not only by texts and photos. The masterclass series serves as a more condensed version of the comprehensive sidemount course. It offers an overarching view of the curriculum, allowing for a quick grasp of the most important concepts. To those who haven't yet enrolled on this platform, I highly recommend taking this Masterclass to gain insight into the breadth of knowledge and expertise this website has to offer. And for those who are already participating in the sidemount courses, this masterclass can serve as a valuable knowledge review. I'm eagerly anticipating the release of more materials and the exploration of various aspects in diving by this website and Steve Martin.

Thanks for creating this new online course, I enjoyed the masterclass. I was in the process of getting drysuit certified when you put this out so some of the conversations were very beneficial and more detailed than your other online training materials. I appreciate that you keep adding to the content as I have been a member of your online courses now for just over a year. The material was a great precursor to my training with Joe Seda in Florida. The more I dive sidemount the more I go back to the material and review it with additional experience and I keep getting additional understanding. I wanted to learn sidemount diving and decided on your online courses. That was 200 sidemount dives ago. Your videos were the only source I used and most importantly to setup my newly purchased X-Deep wing. I watched and studied all of your videos which helped me immensely. I will NEVER go back-to-back mount. I love the freedom it gives me as a solo diver. If there is an issue with any tank valve or similar issue it is right under my armpit attached by a bungee loop - super easy to diagnose and work with. The diving I can do in currents where I dive the St. Lawrence River in Ottawa Canada, sidemount configuration is so streamlined it makes it child’s play. Anyhow, I just wanted you to know and to thank you for your efforts!

After initially completing the entire online course and then the Sidemount Essentials with Steve, I am now very happy to have booked the online Masterclass. For me, it was a very helpful summary and refresher of what I was allowed to learn a few months earlier. At the same time, I was able to learn a lot of new things that were not covered in the online course (or I had forgotten...). I was looking forward to every single video and used every little gap in everyday life for it. The entertaining clips are ideal for learning something in between and letting it sink in. Regardless of whether you already have previous knowledge or not, I would like to recommend the master class to you 100%. Best regards from Baltic Sea Coast, Germany

Your online training has been BY FAR the best value I have ever spent on diving. Outside of my initial OW instruction (8 weeks, twice a week classroom AND pool before the actual open water) this is the best and most comprehensive scuba training I have had, although I have no complaints there are only 2 in-water courses I'd consider at this point. GUE-Fundamentals and your Sidemount Essentials course. While I would enjoy and learn from both - neither are likely due to cost and time. If I'm ever in Malta..

Hi Steve, when I finished my sidemount course at a diving school at home, I was a little bit disappointed about the harsh way of teaching and a bad handbook (TDI). So, I looked for more and better information and found your online courses. I think they are great and really helped me a lot. Even now I always have points I´m looking for during diving and try to make it better. I have not seen better teaching materials anywhere! I recently got access to the Masterclass and found it very helpful, especially after I have seen already most of your online training videos. I got lots of extra valuable hints within these videos, which made it easier for me to understand, what or how I should do a lot of things. Congratulations to your continued efforts!

I recently got access to the new Masterclass series and I must say if you want a good return for investment this is the thing worth investing in. It condenses the 20+ years of knowledge Steve has in a 4 hour, well structured, presentation. It can and will fast-track your development as a diver or instructor. Steve explains really well why certain things work or don’t and how you as a diver (or instructor) benefit from that. All of this in a very relatable, clear and concise maner. There is enough details in the sections to benefit from but not too much that is becomes unclear. As a long time subscriber to the online training of Steve you can only benefit from this Masterclass series, I would (and will) strongly recommend this for any diver out there. It is 10 bucks very well spent.

Hi Steve, just finished your Masterclass. Initially the first few videos up to the equipment one I felt could be condensed a bit. Maybe that’s because I’ve seen all your online training videos over the years and know what is coming. From that point on it was classic Steve Martin. As in all your courses, videos are well shot, making the point being made very clear. Demonstrations are well executed at a relaxed pace and therefore are easy to follow. The explanations are delivered at a speed that allows time to assimilate the knowledge without missing the next few sentences. More please!

I wanted to let you know how valuable your online classes have been to me. I set up my xDeep stealth tec 2.0 and regulators all according to your videos, and I get compliments on trim quite a bit. I try to record myself as frequently as I can. The way you break down every detail of setting up a sidemount system, every length in CM of bungee/line is great, and it allowed me to have a great starting point. Also, cylinder donning/doffing drills on land to put what each hand did into muscle memory are great. I am in Monterey, CA and very few people dive sidemount here, it is mostly all beach entries here and sometimes big waves and steep drop offs of the sand within feet of shore. Thanks, Chris

The explanation on weighting, trim in a drysuit and the harness configuration workshop videos were worth the price of the course by themselves. I took the leap into the online courses having looked at the quality of the free course on Steve’s sidemounting.com pages, and of course, YouTube. I was blown away at how useful they are; how much content there is; how useful as a reference they will be continuing forwards. Although my subscription is coming close to its end, I will be renewing it without hesitation, as I know others have done. Divers I know locally seem to ponder how best to set their sidemount rig up, for say a third cylinder – not me, I just reference Steve’s content and get a solution backed with years of thought and experience – simples!

After watching a bunch of hours of content I started to wonder about how I could fit in a Gozo-based Sidemount Essentials course; thinking "maybe one year in the future sometime". I explained it to my wife and she was hugely positive...! This year in September I completed Sidemount Essentials with Steve, enjoyed every minute, and am looking to go back next year for what has been hands-down the best training I have had since first placing a reg in my mouth.

Sidemounting.com online training is a critical component for all recreational and technical divers. I consider the start of my technical training sidemount essentials, which I did with Joe Seda in Florida, even though I had completed a Tec 40 / sidemount class prior to starting my training with Joe. The online training allowed Joe to focus on the in-water skills development, which was the foundation for cave training and all other technical training including trimix with Vas Proud. The online training shows what all divers should expect from high quality in-water training, and it expedites in-water skill development. My daughter, who is just starting her journey into diving, has watched the backmount diving videos prior to starting open water training, and I am reviewing the instructors videos to make sure I'm the best 'buddy' I can be for her through her training process. I cannot stress enough the importance of these training tools in the safe development of recreational and technical divers. Daniel Glynn (father and cave diver)

I have never tried sidemount before but from studying his online video training, I knew that Steve was the perfect man to teach me and be confident about it. ...And I wasn't wrong! It was truly a life experience week!!! The Sidemount Essentials course has far exceeded my expectations. Steve is a great teacher, has a lot of patience and puts a lot of time and effort in everything he does with his students. Everything is planned and worked with great detail. I found it a memorable and a rewarding experience. The Sidemount Essentials Course transformed my diving. My awareness and skills level under water raised where I never expected in such a short period of time. Everything is in the right place... the harness set up, the weight amount and position, the cylinder trim and your balance in the water. This makes you feel very relaxed, confident and experience the true sidemount set up... and no back pain!!! 🙂 The course was very demanding yet very enjoyable. Every day starts with a theoretical and planning session and ends with a video review about our drills in the water where everything is discussed in great detail. We drained our cylinders every time we went into the water and that's why our learning curve is so high! Everything was done in a relaxed and secure atmosphere yet with extraordinary professionalism. Don't think twice about taking this course with Steve. If you are truly engaged in Sidemount and want to be a great diver, Steve will help you to achieve more than you ever expected!

Speaking of your online training videos I must say that they are a class of its own. They definitely get you well-prepared for the things you need to know during the in-water training and I think that exactly this concept is the key to the steep learning curve because the time underwater can be used efficiently. Thanks so much to you Steve, and to Vas for your mentoring. Not asking questions and exploring options, tends to put a stop to the progression of safety and growth in diving. I have studied in depth your online teachings for 2 years now and counting. I have practiced and trained muscle memory but most importantly never kept my mouth shut if other divers ask me. The results are incredible as they now see a better way. I must also say that in my 2 years of learning, you were always kind enough to explain, or give me an idea for improvement!!! There is always an opportunity to ask, learn, teach, discuss, and grow. In diving there should be no stupid questions. I’m sure I will open my mouth in future to ask another question!! Lol

Steve/Vas, your instructor series is phenomenal. Please let me be the first to say you are correct in what you say. One can teach themselves how to SM just by watching the videos as I have done. However, I did compromise/sacrifice my learning curve without one of you (SM essentials instructor). It took me almost one year to get pretty good with AL80s. I then took the first level of tech diving a year after that and told my tech instructor I was doing it in SM configuration. I had to tell him I taught myself which he responded with “you most likely will have to take a SM workshop with me depending on how I do on dive one”. After the first dive he said “there is no reason for you to take a class with me”. So your online training is spot on but if I had it to do all over again I would see your guy Joe Seda first. I will, in the future, take the course with him so I can be the best I can be. Regards Tony

Hi Steve, Your tutorials are amazing and are a valuable addition to any instructor’s toolbox. I teach PADI in Cyprus, and I took a few courses trying to master this type of diving that although came from cave diving, became very popular among recreational divers . But I found that only using your technique , I am certifying capable and confident sidemount divers , which , I know, will not be a nightmare for any dive boat and/or Dive guide by using up double the space and needing double the time to kit up. I also know that they will look streamlined underwater and be safe. And it is all due to your structured approach in explaining every aspect of sidemount diving , where configuration is crucial. I would not hesitate to recommend it to any instructor teaching sidemount! Thank you very much !

I just have this enlightening experience with your online course. I had few experiences with other instructors in my scuba 'career', but I can honestly say that I never saw such a useful, deep, and practical explanations about how to become a better scuba diver. When I did my PADI AOW training, I was struggling with buoyancy control as I tried to shoot my SMB. I asked my instructor how to improve my buoyancy. He said just practice. He had a good buoyancy control surely, but didn't explain to me about the importance of proper weighting, breath control, etc. Your videos were eye opener. Not to mention that every one of my dive buddy didn't really understand why I wanted to dive sidemount. Even now highly recommended instructors ask me why I dive sm. What is the use of it? Mostly cave divers do it. I am very happy that I did choose sm. It is a different world. Nobody really taught me or checked how I do SM, but many times I dive with others, they mention how good my trim is. I learned everything from your videos, how to setup my equipment, enter or exit water, or solve problems, etc. I hope we can meet sometimes and can have a training together, because I want to improve and help others to become much better, quality divers. I am sure that there many excellent divers and instructors out there, but I am sure that your contribution to the scuba diving society is huge and very important. Thank you for that! Regards, Csaba

Steve, just wanted to thank you for your incredible online Sidemount course. I did my PADI Sidemount training last year but always felt like my XDeep harness setup wasn't streamlined where I wanted it. The instructor was good, but I could tell he did not live and breathe sidemount. At the time I had signed up with your free course system which was helpful but obviously left you wanting more. I am doing my Overhead Environment training this November in Florida and wanted to make sure my skills and setup were up to speed. After watching your entire online course (WOW). I decided to rebuild my XDeep harness setup using all your recommendations. I re-did my entire bungee system, my attachment points, wing, etc... all using your setup. I finally feel my setup is where it needs to be, and I felt very comfortable in the water. So again, thank you. Next is working on all my skills which are much easier to work on now that my harness is setup correctly. Wish I spent the money on your training a year ago. Take care and please keep the updates coming. Thanks, Jason

Two months ago I started my PADI Sidemount specialty and about the same time I enrolled for the Sidemount online training on Sidemounting.com. So far I learned more from the online training videos than what I learned from the PADI specialty course. What I found is that what you learn from the online training is not been taught by your PADI course simply because that’s not part of the course. Things like setting up you cylinders, setting up your Sidemount BCD, deciding the correct bungee lengths, weight checks and placement, plus donning your cylinders when in the water. There is so mush to do, you simply can not teach this in a 3 dive course, the online video’s are a very big help here, and they are a big help during your progress of getting better and more experienced. The biggest mis in my opinion on the PADI Sidemount specialty is that the instructors aren’t really Sidemount divers, they dive with you in back mount dive gear and are not really able to give you feedback on your gear setup. This also affects the ability to do some of the important exercises like out of air procedures with the long hose, if your instructor doesn’t have a long hose, how can they demonstrate the skills I am to do? For now I keep following the online course, occasionally filming myself so I can see how I was doing in the water, then I can correct this on the next dive if needed. I big thanks to the Sidemounting.com instructors for making me a better sidemount diver!

Personally, I think both you and Vas did a brilliant job! So far, the only thing I would like to see is STUDENT EVALUATION VIDEOS. Specifically, covering student issues that the two of you have found most challenging to address, along with explanations on the approach that was taken to successfully work through them. Why isn't this stuff standard fare with the training agencies? The back mount and all the tips and trips are excellent as well.

Now it's time to get into the water as soon as Covid allows it again. The videos have input for any type of diver and describe many basics very clearly and visual, which are too often neglected. Keep up going Steve, I cannot wait for new videos 🤙

I signed up in 2019 for the full program in the search for better ways of side-mount diving (and diving in general). The videos are focussed on a single topic, easy to follow and greatly narrated. Pointed me to a lot of things to learn and maybe even more to unlearn.

In 2021 when the instructor series came out I signed up for that as well. Another great series with a treasure trove of information on how to improve the side-mount courses given to students. However, the tips apply to all in-water training courses.

Both the regular series and the instructor series are great and improved both my diving as well as my teaching skills.

I have found these online courses to be invaluable in improving my sidemount diving. Sidemount is both skill and equipment intensive. So it is essential to spend a great deal of time in and out of the water to get it right. These courses break down sidemount diving into manageable chunks that really makes them easy to follow and the skills easy to replicate on your own. I have just started to view his instructor series and am already noticing that his videos provide insights that it took me years as an instructor to learn on my own. This program will make better instructors, which will improve the sport. I'm definitely going to find time to take a course from him soon!

Due to where I live there are only a handful of sidemount divers living on Borneo island. And the instructor whom I took my sidemount course with is not even a seasoned sidemount diver himself… I did not enjoy diving it during the course and I blamed on the rented BC. It was a vendor who introduced me to check out Steve’s website when I was making purchase of my Xdeep Stealth TEC during my visit to Australia last year. To be honest, I was feeling very reluctant to sign up for Steve’s online workshop at first, as it is very expensive for me especially when I have to convert from my super weak Malaysian Ringgit to British Pounds. It was a leap of faith for me, not knowing how much I could grow from this hefty investment that I have put on an online course. But then, magic started to happen my investment is returning as I have gone deeper and through every chapter. I have setup my harness and rigs as instructed in the video and I remember how I was eager to try it out in the pool. My biggest improvement I’ve took away from Steve’s workshop are my donning and doffing speed, tank trim and my backward finning.
3 months later, during our diving season has reopened, I remember the facial expressions my sidemount instructor had when he saw how efficient and effectively, I could get both my tanks done and jumped into the water waiting for him, and how I could get out of the water as soon as I have surfaced without going through the drama stowing the long hose on the surface. That was our first dive together after 3 months I have taken my sidemount course with him. Yes, my sidemount skills have surpassed my sidemount instructor in merely 3 months time, now how cool is that? 😁
So, if now you are to ask me if it is worth to sign up for Steve’s online courses? I will say F* yeah, don’t hesitate! 🤘🏻
Thank you Steve. C.W.

If you think your two-dive sidemount specialty makes you a competent SM diver, you should seriously take a look at Steve's online courses. Even in recreational diving, sidemount is much more than just clipping your tanks on the side.

Especially if you think that sidemount "just does not feel right", this online course will be eye-opening for you and my money is on your instructor just not being sidemount-competent.

Unlike in many other online courses, Steve goes in a great depth of now only explaining WHAT to do, but also WHY and are the implications of each setup/procedure decisions and usually demonstrates everything in the water with his students.

I like his no-bullshit approach, especially to basic but often overlooked skills like buoyancy, trim and weighting, which are a must for a competent diver. His video on weighting helped win more than one argument 😀

Even if you are a highly competent diver, you can still learn a lot from his videos and discover new approaches for the way you dive. I myself got very thorough sidemount training in caves of Mexico, but Steve's videos helped me a great deal with the transition to using sidemount with drysuit here in Denmark.

As a sidemount diver for over ten years and teaching it for over five, I find that there are few great resources to leave a new sidemount diver (ex Student) with once they go it alone. This is where Steve's online courses excel, its literally like having your own dedicated instructor in the room with you. Teaching elements and key points are explained, demonstrated and zoomed in to provide that vital detail that is missing from so many other reference materials.
Want to move from Steel tanks to aluminium tanks and don't know how to set them up? There is so much useful information available at such a great price that it really should be in the library of any serious diver wanting to get the best out of their sidemount diving.

It is without doubt the best reference that a new or even experienced sidemount diver or instructor could ever have. I recommend it to all my students.

I bought the videos even though having a couple hundred sidemount dives under my belt, mainly because I was curious since I was always diving the same system and methods since I started and most people I dive with do so as well.

The material is well structured and contains a load of information for sidemount beginners. Even for seasoned sidemount divers there are a few interersting points to take away.

However if you already experienced the material is a bit slow going and could be more condensed. Some parts could be explained better as to WHY a specific setup is used.

Overall very good videos. What I would like is more detailed modification options to other side mount systems than xDeep. For example Apeks WSX in my case. Also I would like to see more different options for cold water diving. Because some of these solutions don't work very well in cold water (+4 °C) with thick under gloves. But very good instructions to every sidemount diver regardless of your level.

Another important thing: after the first release I asked Steve by PM and the web to help me in some configurations that had not been treated. Into the second release in 2017 I find all the answers I was looking for.

So, I can say that Steve's course is really interactive because he listens to our problems and solve them! Thanks Steve

These videos are an excellent resource for sidemount divers at any experience level. So much of sidemount diving is managing equipment, and Mr. Martin’s step-by-step instruction videos do a tremendous job of transferring his considerable experience in sidemount instruction into digestible chunks that are easily replicated in real world diving. For the novice, Mr. Martin provides useful context and a building-block style of teaching that is easy to follow. Moreover, Mr. Martin is full of tips and detail-oriented advice that are useful to experienced divers as well. There is so much here that as I continue to gain more experience with sidemount I find myself watching the videos again and again to better understand concepts that are relevant to my new experience level. Overall Mr. Martin has mastered the art of teaching by video, and I look forward to continuing my scuba education with him.

I'm following Steve for longer time now, but invested in online course when I enrolled in DM and IDC course after short chat with Steve. Covering all diving styles (BM, twin, SM, hand signals,...) and getting tips and tricks helped me a lot during courses. Style of presentation is very clear and focused and you can always return back to check any detail you are missing. I benefit a lot also as instructor and for sure I'm giving to my students better training and lessons.
I did SM course after this online course and my IDC and for sure I gain from it much much more than I would without. Solving some initial problems and issues was just a natural process.
Seriously, no course and no training with any instructor can beat price/value ratio of this online course!! Even in-water training with Steve himself not! 🙂

I have used the online videos for the past year to improve my sidemount diving skills. I decided to renew the subscription based on continued updating of content by Steve. I have found his videos to be informative, well balanced and very educational. Every video has tips that are not taught in sidemount classes. The information learned has improved my trim, balance, and other critical skills. I highly recommend his video series to any diver wanting to improve their sidemount diving skillset.

The way the topics are covered and broken by this course is really excellent. It allows you think beyond the conventional way of thinking. You also quickly realize the insights and explanations are very useful. The workshops make the learning real world and I can say from experience that this course really works. Whether you are new to diving or very experienced, there is most certainly value in this material.

At only 25 dives I consider myself a very new and an inexperienced diver. These videos have been a great help in getting started with what I believe is some of the best knowledge available online regarding sidemounting and scuba diving in general. I can easily spot the clean and efficient differences between Steve's logical methods vs other setups online. The vids are worth every penny!!!! I love being able to pull them up when ever I want. Plus Steve even takes the time to answer personal question on each individual video. Its the best you can get aside for face to face, one on one with a top notch instructor. Steve is a great instructor and seems like a great guy. Glad to support him in order to keep getting his knowledge and great service. Thank you very much. Please keep up the great work!!!!

I love how you’re giving the diving community a taste of your online videos. I had purchased the videos several months back and have really enjoyed them. The previews that you are showing are only the tip of the iceberg compared to the full access ones. It is well worth the time and money to watch these videos. I went for the “everything included” package and I have learned so much from these step by step, very well put together series. I can see the amount of time and work that Steve has put towards these instructional videos. I would highly recommend purchasing these videos!

For me as a new certified PADI Sidemount Diver this course helped both to prepare my self for the course and to actually being able to travel to Malta and do a full week of Sidemount diving after without loosing time on how to set up my gear and all the other things they dont teach you at PADI. For me getting the certification was just the first step into SideMount Diving. I go back to the videos from time to time to refresh and pick up new ideas and techniques that can be refined. Thank you!

Ron Breines (the last reviewer) and I share a surprising amount in common. I'm also a university professor and dive instructor. I've recently started sidemount diving and having exceptional online material available is invaluable. As has been said, online material doesn't replace quality, in-person instruction. However, no matter how hard one tries, it is impossible to absorb and retain all the information transferred during in-person training which is often condensed into a short period of time. An online resource such as Steve's videos allows me to review and recall info forgotten. The snow is finally melting in Canada and I will be getting back in the water with a complete online refresher course to help me get tuned in. As a fellow dive instructor I can appreciate the knowledge transfer skills that Steve has honed over years of teaching. When you watch his videos you are learning from a master!

The video series are well organized, clearly presented, and of a very high quality. Also, I found the comments and discussion from others who had watched the videos quite useful.

Great instruction series. Unlike most online courses in other areas of study I have taken, the videos I have viewed are clear, concise, and give adequate information to improve many aspects of SM diving, and are applicable in other areas of diving as well.
Steve's "face-to-face" method of presenting the material makes the viewer get that "in-class" feel that helps transfer the knowledge by allowing the viewer to follow along while the video is running. This has already helped me better adjust my gear, which allows me to be a better diver in general.
I would highly recommend this series to those that want to improve their dive skills.

I have had these videos for the last 12 months and still keep going back to them to check up on little things. I mainly do open water diving and had been self taught side mount for about 12/18 months before I bought these videos. What a difference they made to my diving. It was all the little tweeks that you can make to balance and adjust the system that I was missing. Made a world of difference. If you think that £143.00 is a lot for some on line video you would be so wrong. They are well made and informative well every penny.

Good morning Steve.
Yes, me and my 2 friends all studied together all your SM videos and configured our Stelth tech in that way. It was really helpful. We have already dived sidemount rigs (Apex, Razor and my home made). We mostly 95% do cave diving with SM and occasionally we do sump diving and exploring. But with the Stelth rig and your video instructions these is an other world :). We are all certified cave divers. We also use multiple stages to get further in the cave. We never did a proper SM courese or took someone to correct our trim, stage pozition, managing scenarios. We are using knowledge from our experiences and previous courses. And is going pretty good 🙂 Not the best, but enough to dive safely.
The idea of doing the in water training with you would be to refine our SM skills, to get some ideas how to manage scenarios, what to correct, ect.
I know that the price of the course will be an issue. But that we will discus if we will decide to come on Gozo.
It would be a pleasure to get trained from you.
We will keep in touch. Please let me know when you will have a fix schedule, so we can talk further.
Thank you again for answer me back.
I whish you a pleasant day.
Best regards.

I started diving in July 2017. Since then I have spent almost every weekend in the water doing saome diving and learning new skills. My mentor is a sidemounter and when I decided to go into intro to tec that is the platform he steered me into. That is 3 months ago. I have been enjoying learning the new platform and honing my skills particularly the back kick. One of the guys at the shop, Jay Lytell suggested to look at Steve's website that it had a lot of good information. Wow he was not wrong.
The information is invaluable. To say the least being relatively new to the sport I got all the courses, trying to get kids and wife into this also. Watching and seeing the various skills and tips have helped me improve quickly with my skills. Still need some work with buoyancy or better yet staying still in the water, buoyancy not bad. I tend to move my feet a little which makes me move around too much. I am reminded of it. LOL
I have an Apeks 25 rig which is great, but now these guys are all in XDeep rigs. Making me jealous but I am learning and gaining experience I will try the XDeep for sure.
All the info here and what I have been able to implement and practice have helped me in the water every time I get in. Looking forward to next time. Water in Northern Virginia at Millbrook Quarry is 40 F and it gets to you after a while. Need some warm weather or a trip. Keep up the good work Steve.

I have been following Steve martin for several years, from his older website to the new. Using the modifications on my other two side mount rigs to finally getting my latest, XDeep Tec. The information has been invaluable! A year has passed since I signed onto the online courses, I initially purchased Sidemount Essentials and then added on another course. The video's are HD quality and to say they are in depth is stating it lightly. You will get the WHY on everything not just do it this way. The in water explanation by Steve on each video shows exactly what is happening with the divers set up and then the steps to correct the deficiency is explained in detail. No other video, book or diver I have met was able to convey this message. For me, this was by far the best money I have spent for sidemount. The common statement I hear from other sidemount divers is "I'm not comfortable in the rigging", I used to say the same thing, not anymore! Purchase, watch, watch again. The best part is you can take it anywhere! Even while your on a dive trip! I go back on my IPhone, IPad and laptop, not just at home, the quality is the same. There are many great instructors out there the difference is you can take this one with you 24, 7, 365!
